About this meeting
The developer, Maplewood Development, has requested a variance from the Environmental Quality Board (EQB) to begin early demolition and cleanup of the existing buildings on the Hillview site before the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is complete. Public comments for that request closed on September 14th.

The Met Council recommends that the EQB deny the variance because the application ignores risks of disturbing toxic soil into nearby drinking water supply, fails to protect the Rice Creek area and directly contradicts findings that demolition could cause serious environmental harm. You can read Met Council’s full comment as well as the rest of the public comments online.

We are looking for a few people to attend the meeting in person and online to provide additional public comments and listen to the discussion. If you are interested in attending in person, let us know and we can look into carpooling.

Want to provide public comments and don’t know what to say: use our public comment guide. If you can’t make the meeting you can submit written comment to EQB by emailing your comments to info.EQB@state.mn.us by noon the day before the meeting (Oct. 20).
